Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Stuff like this seems like it might be an example of why ESPN fired a bunch of people...

If you're going to do a "duo" for us, I'd personally think Dok or Newman should be in over Svi....granted I understand why they're not. The writer probably just looked at stats from last year and picked the 2 highest scorers?

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

per illy's sentiments, even though he's a 6'8" senior guard orherwise headed to the draft, he may still be only the 4th best player next year.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Graham, Newman, vick, and Svi will look really great if Udoka owns the paint like we are all hoping.

Yeah, looking at the others, seems he just went through a list of who pulled out of the draft.  We all know our dynamic duo most likely is Graham and Newman

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

offseason twist:

who have been the best Self-era combos at KU?

Tyshawn and TRob? Wiggins and half a donut season Embiid? Josh and Frank?

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Mario and Russ Rob.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

I mean, the scope of the question isn't clear.  Frank and Josh were better players than were Sherron and Cole.  But without Frank and Josh, last year's team is a bubble team.  Without Sherron and Cole, that '09 team might not have won 10 games.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Morningstar would have had to put up 12 PPG up in that squad.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Good question....

Potential wise in the NBA Wiggins and Embiid are far and away the winners.

Junior Selden and senior Perry were pretty good.

Ty and TRob carried a heavy load.

Josh and Frank were beasts last year.

The twins were a pretty good combo their final year.

The 08 team can't really have a combo because they were so balanced. Rush was the best player, Mario clutch, shady was nice for us inside (most of the time), Sherron looked like best player for stretches, and Russ was a defensive menace.

If we're talking about favorite combos, then maybe I'm with you....

But "best" combo can't include a guy who was on the bench at the end of the national title game so that sherron could be in.

Sure it can.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Well, technically that's true. You can pick any 2 guys you want. Sorry. I stand corrected.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Josh and Frank have the best combined stats for a duo.
We should also mention Simien and Langford.

And belong nowhere near this conversation.

Think of it like this:

If you could pick any two players from the same season to build a team around, who?

I'd say they belong as much as Cole and Sherron or Mario and RussRob.

They lead us to an overall #1 seed iirc? And a top 5 (maybe 3?) SELF era single season records?

Well that makes it easy.

Senior Frank and Freshman Josh.

Tough to beat NPOY senior PG and lotto pick freshman who can guard 3 or 4 postions and is a terrific passer and teammate.

No.
Selden wasn't even the 2nd best player of the team that year.
And you of all people should know that.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Perry and Selden were starters on some of the worst and most embarrassing loosses in the Self era.

And without actually looking at the stats, I'd guess they also had the worst combined performance of any Elite 8 pantshitting we've endured.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Wiggins 4 points, Embiid 0.

Re: "The best combos in college basketball"

Oh, you said Elite 8, my bad, Wiggins and Embiid never made it that far.
