Re: RIP Tom Petty

Huge Petty fan. Saw him perform many times. Most memorable was about a 250-500 person crowd at the Hard Rock in Vegas where he and his musicians truly were having fun and were absolutely admiring and amazed by each other's talent.
Very sad to hear the news of his passing.
That being said, just because none of the peeps who lost their lives in Vegas were outstanding musicians, their deaths are just as tragic if not more tragic to me.
May TP R.I.P. and his music live on forever.

SNL's cold open was Jason Aldean covering "I Won't Back Down". Every now and then, SNL gets it just right.

Re: RIP Tom Petty

Rock superstar Tom Petty died of an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking various medications that included opioids, the Los Angeles county coroner and his family said Friday.

The beloved musician's system showed traces of fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, according to a statement from Jonathan Lucas, the chief medical examiner for the coroner's office.

In a message posted on Facebook, Petty's wife and daughter confirmed he was taking a mix of drugs to treat health issues.

"In a message posted on Facebook, Petty's wife and daughter confirmed he was taking a mix of drugs to treat health issues".
After reading "traces of fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl" were in his system -  I can't help but ask, were Petty's wife and daughter aware of the combo of drugs (predominantly pain killers) he was taking and who if anyone enabled him to obtain those drugs?

Sad. May he rest in peace.

Re: RIP Tom Petty

Everyone blames the opiates.  But I rarely see the media say anything about benzos.  It's the combo of xanax and tainted pills/dope that kill you.  Fentanyl and all fentanyl analogs are fucking powerful.  Very few people want a fent high.  If opiates were legal to buy, he would not be dead.  Xanax and fent could kill a horse.

Yeah.  They did.  But xanax played a huge role in the deaths as well.

I don't want all drugs.  Just my oxycodone.  You can keep the benzos, weed, coke, booze.

Re: RIP Tom Petty

Prince, Tom Petty, ....dang, that Fentanyl is some strong ish...

The Santa Monica Observer reported that a source in the London Police Department confirmed Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries,  died of Fentanyl poisoning in a deliberate overdose.

Counterfeit Fentanyl was allegedly found by her bed in a London hotel and the singer was declared dead at the scene.

As far as Tom Petty:

Tom's autopsy report shows the singer was on several pain meds, including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone (Oxycontin), temazepam (Restoril), alprazolam (Xanax), citalopram (Celexa), acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. The reason doctors prescribed the meds was because of a number of medical problems, including emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip.

Don't see anything about O'Riordan's death other than its cause will not be determined for months.

Re: RIP Tom Petty

Shirley, is it common to prescribe that many strong opiates in combination with 3 different benzos?  Shouldn't the doctors know the lethal synergy between opiates and benzos?
