Re: Thought of the day/Athlete of the day/News story of the day.....

Maybe you should have given 28 or 29 pairs to someone who doesn't have shoes instead of hoarding them all to yourself. Kind of a selfish attachment to material possessions if you ask me. No reason anyone should have more than one pair of shoes, you only have one pair of feet.

I, at most, buy one pair of shoes per year, and I only do so in years when I don't give anyone a Christmas present. Any more is just wasteful spending of money brought on by commercialism.

Sit down, be humble.

Re: Thought of the day/Athlete of the day/News story of the day.....

All of my summer shoes get donated to the Philippines. I take them there personally. You see, the airlines allow 140 pounds of checked luggage. So I fill two checked boxes with shoes and children's books that I buy at garage sales and just have my personal stuff in a carryon. Yes, I pay the upcharge to offset my carbon emissions for the flight.
The thing my feet are in the most is probably my Acorn slippers. I purchased them as seconds at the Acorn factory outlet in Maine in 1996. I keep a big needle for leather around the house as I have had to resew the sole on twice.
My birthday present from my mother last year was getting a pair of my Birks resoled. It was a great gift. Check out http://www.ibirks.com/  This guy did great work. I am wearing some Bostons right now that will probably be the next ones to get an overhaul.
I can't think of ever a time I threw away a shoe.
I am as shocked as you are that I have that many shoes. I will go through them soon to see which ones could be donated.

I like that my thoughts, athletes, and news stories, are eliciting conversation. I only ask/hope that people keep it respectful.

Thought -
I suppose the above statement could be my thought for the day but I'm going to add another one.
Sometimes in life we have very difficult decisions and we need to stop and ask ourselves - Am I ok with this decision. It's not always necessarily what we really want to do but it's what's best that we do. When we answer ourselves with a - yes, I am ok with the decision it's then we can then be at peace with ourselves knowing that even if we end up having made the wrong decision, we thought it was the right one - and we can move on without beating ourselves up about it. I truly believe we all have good intentions for ourselves and others. Sometimes we make mistakes. It's ok to make a mistake if you can move on from it. If someone else doesn't/can't forgive you, make sure you still forgive yourself.

Athlete -
He's not an athlete per-se but he is involved in a professional sport. The guy I am choosing for today is Brad Stevens. I realize he's the flavor of the month and he's getting blown by the majority of people who watch the NBA so maybe it is overblown but the guy deserves some praise. He's getting some from his peers but surely it's questionable how and why he didn't get a single vote.

News story -
I had never heard of this until this morning. Of course kids will be kids but what is the need to come up with shit like this - and then have it turn in to a "fad"?

There’s what if’s in everyone’s life Gutman. You just gotta keep movin.

One of my what ifs was what if I wasn’t so mean to Wiscy all the time would he still post here?

I cannot wait for these kids to become parents.  The world is gonna be a shit show.  Eating soap, condoms, now spaying aerosol on you until you burn yourself.  What an incredible species.  We went from Einstein and his buddies inventing special and general relativity to this in 100 years.   I thought species became more intelligent?

pwhitt - You're 100% spot on. Life is full of what if's. Each and every moment you could say to yourself, "what if". The key is to try your best not to beat yourself up. As far as Wiscy, he's a grown cat. If he and others allowed themselves to be chased off of here I respect their decision even if I don't agree with it. Not a single person in the world who doesn't have something to share of value to others.

Ardy - A lot of ways to look at it. The world has already become a shit show, the world has always been a shit show, the world will become a shit show, the world is what it is, whatever you choose to say and believe it's your feeling/s and it's/they are valuable to you.
No doubt there were a bunch of fuck nuts 100 years ago that did stupid shit. People have always done stupid shit for attention.
Less resources to do it and less of an audience in the past but people still found stupid shit to do and to test "boundaries". I will add one thing that I sort of "side" with you on. I truly believe that as the world's population increases, there are a lot more stupid people than there are intelligent people. That being said, it doesn't mean stupid people can't contribute to the world in a positive way and intelligent people can't and won't fuck up the world.

Take a moment and realize your words have power and meaning. Realize how simple it is to make someone feel good with your words.
My hope for you today is that your day be filled with peace and happiness.

Check out the headline/byline. Then read the story. Then ask yourself how misleading the headline/byline is.

That is a really bad headline. Even with some commas, that headline is factually incorrect when compared to the story.

The world isn't significantly worse than it has been before.

The main thing that is worse is our giving bandwidth to click bait stories.

Two seasons ago this guy was my favorite player on my favorite team.
Besides the two home runs he had 2 doubles and picked a guy off at 2nd (he's a Catcher). Heck of a Bobblehead day.

I have many regrets but the key is to live in the now and move forward - because the past will never change.

Athlete -
Pretty freaking funny that a couple of days ago I pointed out Willson (yes - 2 L) Contreras had 2HR and 2 Doubles in a game.
Now Lindor is getting credit for the rare feat. Kind of crazy that in the last 100 seasons it's only happened 108 times.

Being that it's Mother's Day - I'm also going to add my mother today. She was never really an athlete - other than a decent bowler.
What she was is someone who would drive me to my practices and games, attended my games, and was my fan. Thanks Mom!

News Story -

Stale but I'm lazy this morning and thought it was an eye roller. I have to figure at least one person other than myself has made a post on here while on a date.

VERY busy week ahead. Some good things, some bad things, some indifferent things planned and my guess is a whole lot of unplanned things I will have to deal with. That being said....
Life is full of obstacles. Some we excel at and some we fail at. The key is to keep on keeping on no matter what life throws at us.

Further proof ESPN sucks and is more about entertainment than "reporting" the sports news.
It's 5:30am and this has been one of their "top headlines" since early evening last night - "Tiger: 'Played much better' than score suggests".
NOTHING in terms of a headline or "front page article" about the guy who won the TPC - Webb Simpson.
He's (Webb Simpson) my choice for athlete of the day.

News story -
Someone pointed out to me that the person Donald Trump chose to give the "dedication prayer" at the US Embassy in Jerusalem today is Dallas First Baptist Church Pastor Robert Jeffress. I was told I should have a problem with it. Personally - I don't really give a damn but I could see how some/many/a lot of people might. Whether you agree or disagree with his beliefs - and I believe the majority of Americans actually do agree with him - I feel he is not the right choice.

pastor who has been labeled a “bigot” for saying Jews will all go to hell and describing Islam as a religion that promotes pedophilia is set to speak at a ceremony acknowledging the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

Southern Baptist pastor Robert Jeffress has described gay people as taking part in “the most detestable acts you can imagine,” and also slammed Mormonism as “a cult” in 2012, suggesting people should not vote for then Republican candidate Mitt Romney—a practicing Mormon

Too lazy to put in the effort today (see today's thought and then give me shit because I don't feel I am being the best I can be) so I am just gong to throw out a Marcus Smart and leave it at that.

News story -
I went to a funeral yesterday. A who's who of Chicago (and people from other places around the country/world) attended. Big fucking deal. Right? Well I took a moment and thought about how if everybody who attended took 10% of their net worth, their power, their resources, their connections, and put it all together, the possibilities of how they could better the world would be endless.
Maybe some day I will try to figure out a way to pull a Gates and Buffet "giving pledge" for not just the wealthiest to share their wealth but a way for everyone to give just 10% of what they are comfortably able to give in not just monetary pledges but in terms of their billy to help change the world for the better. It's all about giving back and making the world a better place in the process.
That's all I got for ya. Have a good day.

Life is not what you make it - it's what makes you. Or not, and it is what you make it. Wtf do I know about life other than it throws you curve balls, sinkers, sliders, fast balls, knuckle balls, cutters, slurves, forks balls, and changeups. Once in a blue moon maybe I get a palmball.

Athlete -
Alex Killorn. Wtf is Alex Killorn you ask? He's 6-2 Canadian with a Harvard education. I could be a jag off and say look him up but I'l save you the 3 seconds. He's the guy who scored the game winning goal for the Lightning against the Caps and made the Eastern Finals tied up at 2-2. HUGE difference between 2-2 and 3-1.

News story -
The Royal Wedding. Happy for Harry. Couldn't really give a fudge about Marylin Manson, Studs Terkel, I mean Meghan Merkel. She may be a wonderful young lady but frankly she just doesn't do it for me. Then again, it's Harry she has to do it for. Not me.
Anyways.... I found this slightly interesting. You probably won't.

Royal Wedding and/or the Preakness.
Both WAY overblown in the scheme of what is and should be important in life. Unless of course you solely focus on love and entertainment. Then both the Royal Wedding and the Preakness pretty much are what life should be all about.
